In 1918, the Shandong Provincial Department of Industry allocated a special fund of 40810 yuan to build a silk company on the foundation of the ancient Qingzhou government office. In August, Qingzhou Silk company was officially opened. At that time, there were 3 mulberry gardens with an area of 160 acres; there were two departments for silkworm rearing and silk production. The sericulture department specialized in producing silkworm eggs and cultivating mulberry seedlings. It cultivated more than 60,000 mulberry seedlings and produced more than 5,000 silkworm eggs every year.

In 1920, Qingzhou Silk Company introduced 69 silkworm species for experimentation. Among them, 13 silkworm species such as Guixue, Xinyuan, Xinyuan, and Xinzhu were bred.

In 1925, with the expansion of eggs production business, the plant of Qingzhou silk company was reorganized into a silkworm eggs manufacturing plant. It used scientific methods to raise silkworms and produce more than 10,000 eggs per year. It became the largest seed production institution in Shandong at that time.

In 1928, due to disturbances in the city of Yidu (Qingzhou), the facilities of the Provincial Silkworm eggs Factory were severely damaged, and the company was forced to shut down.

In 1930, the Shandong Provincial Construction Department allocated additional funds to reorganize the sericulture plant into a provincial sericulture testing ground. In the sericulture testing ground.has 1 head technician, 2 Senior technicians, and 4 junior technicians. The annual expenditure is 9,306 yuan, and the operating cost is 4,686 yuan. There are 12 silkworm houses and 3 mulberry gardens in the field, totaling 165.3 mu. The number of eggs produced at the test site is 18,400 sheets.

In 1937, the Shandong Provincial Government decided to abolish the sericulture testing ground and changed its name to Shandong Yidu Silkworm Breeding Farm, which still belongs to the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Forestry.

In 1948, the Shandong Provincial Department of Industry was rebuilt on its old site as a Qingzhou Silk Improvement Plant.

In October 1950, the Shandong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Forestry merged the Lu Zhongnan Silk Guidance Office into the Shandong Provincial Sericulture Improvement Institute, directly under the leadership of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry.

On July 20, 1955, it was decided to abolish the improvement institute and change its name to Shandong Yidu Silkworm Breeding plant, which still belongs to the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Forestry.

In 1957, with the approval of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Langjiazhuang Nursery in Yidu County and Kangjia Sheep Nursery in Tanfang Township were merged into the branch.

In 1971, the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Forestry decided to transfer the farm to Yidu County and renamed it Yidu Silkworm Breeding Plant. The silkworm seeding plan is still managed by the Provincial Department, and the rest is under the Yidu County Forestry Bureau.

In 1981, with the approval of the province, the silkworm breeding farm in Yidu County was directly led by Shandong Silk Corporation and was renamed as Shandong Yidu silkworm eggs co.,ltd

Shandong Guangtong Silkworm eggs Co., Ltd., established by Shandong Qingzhou Silkworm Eggs Co.,Ltd integrates 9 silkworm eggs plant in the province including Yantai, Haiyang, Fangshan, Yishui, Zoucheng, Linqu, Laiwu, Xintai, etc. , Formed a silkworm eggs production and operation company. At present, 2 million boxes of hybrid silkworm eggs are produced annually.
