National Training Workshop on New Silkworm Varieties, New Technologies, New Equipment, and New Achievements Held in Nanchong
From April 13 to 16, 2021, the “National Training Course on New Silkworm Varieties, New Technologies, New Equipment, and New Achievements in Silkworm Seed Production,” hosted by the Silkworm Seed Section of the Chinese Sericultural Society and co-organized by the Sichuan Provincial Sericultural Research Institute, was held in Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. Attending the opening ceremony and delivering remarks were Yang Yuanping, Deputy Director of the Sichuan Provincial Sericultural Administration Station; Zhang Youhong, Secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Sericultural Research Institute; Feng Guodong, Chairman of Shandong Guangtong Silkworm Seed Group, the supporting organization; and Zhao Yi, Deputy Director of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau of Yilong County, Sichuan Province. Feng Huaishong, President of the Silkworm Seed Section of the Chinese Sericultural Society, outlined the recent national situation in sericulture and silkworm seed production, as well as the objectives, significance, and specific agenda of this “four-new” training course. The course was subsequently chaired by Fang Dewen, Zhang Baohua, and Zhou Chengwei, Vice Presidents of the Silkworm Seed Section. A total of 116 leaders and technical backbones from silkworm seed production, research, education, and management positions across 13 sericulture-producing provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities nationwide participated in the training.
This training program invited Professor Cui Weizheng from Shandong Agricultural University, Professor Liu Jiping from South China Agricultural University, Researcher Ai Junwen from the Hunan Provincial Sericulture Research Institute, Researcher Zhang Jianfei from the Sichuan Provincial Sericultural Research Institute, and Researcher Fang Dewen from the Shandong Guangtong Silkworm Seed Group to deliver lectures on five topics: “Progress and Prospects in the Practical Application of Artificial Feed Rearing of Silkworms in China,” “Occurrence of Silkworm Diseases and New Technologies for Integrated Prevention and Control,” “Advances in Research on Mulberry Silkworm Varieties and on High-Quality New Varieties as well as on New Equipment and Machinery for Sericulture Production,” and “Application of New Varieties and New Machinery at the Guangtong Group.” In addition, Associate Researcher Qing Xuegang presented new technologies for rearing domestic silkworms and the performance characteristics of new equipment; General Manager Wan Gang and Chairman Ma Qianzhou respectively highlighted the advantages, features, and application prospects of the Shuangjiu-brand chlorine dioxide disinfectant and the Qianyang-brand new sericultural machinery. The program also arranged a field visit to the Modern Sericulture Industrial Park in Yilong County, where participants toured the intelligent egg-eclosion chamber, the shared-rearing rooms for young silkworms, large-scale silkworm-rearing greenhouses, and state-of-the-art silk-weaving and garment-manufacturing workshops, as well as the Mechanical Research Center of the National Sericulture Industry Technology System at the Sichuan Provincial Sericultural Research Institute. To mark the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the program further organized a visit by all participants to the Memorial Hall of Zhu De’s Former Residence and the Zhang Side Memorial Hall in Yilong County.
This training program yielded substantial benefits. Participants gained a thorough understanding of the current state of research and the promotion and application of new silkworm strains, cutting-edge technologies, innovative equipment, and recent scientific achievements, thereby broadening their horizons, liberating their thinking, and opening up new avenues for creative problem-solving. They also acquired valuable new knowledge and paid heartfelt tribute to Commander-in-Chief Zhu De and Comrade Zhang Sidede, enriching the content of our ongoing Party history education. This has been highly significant in strengthening our conscious commitment to loving the Party and the country, as well as to professional dedication and selfless service, thus achieving the anticipated dual outcomes of specialized technical training and ideological-political education.
