10.4 Billion Eggs! Qingzhou Once Again Sets a New National Record for the Largest Silkworm Egg Export Order
From March 23 to 25, a single domestic export order—the largest of its kind—consisting of 401,000 sheets containing 10.4 billion silkworm eggs, was processed through inspection, quarantine, and customs clearance at Weifang Customs, which falls under the jurisdiction of Jinan Customs, before being shipped in batches to Beijing Capital International Airport. The “silkworm babies” will then be loaded onto a dedicated charter flight bound for Uzbekistan.

Shandong Guangtong Silkworm Seed Co., Ltd. is a leading representative of the silkworm seed industry in Qingzhou and throughout China. In particular, since the launch of the Belt and Road Initiative, the company has seized this major opportunity, leveraging the advantages of the Weifang National Agricultural Open Development Comprehensive Pilot Zone to comprehensively strengthen trade ties with countries along the Belt and Road.
Lv Peng, Manager of the Marketing and Trade Department at Shandong Guangtong Silkworm Seed Co., Ltd., stated that since January 2024 the company has steadily received orders for silkworm eggs from Uzbekistan. To date, a total of 49 contracts have been signed, covering 401,000 sheets of silkworm eggs—equivalent to 10.4 billion individual eggs—representing a year-on-year increase of 10%. Following successful inspection and quarantine by customs authorities, these silkworm eggs will be shipped in batches to Beijing Capital International Airport and then transported by air to Tashkent International Airport in Uzbekistan.

In recent years, Shandong Guangtong Silkworm Seed Co., Ltd. has conducted in-depth analyses of Uzbekistan’s climate, humidity levels, and other factors that can affect silkworm egg hatching, with a dedicated focus on developing new high-quality varieties that have earned widespread recognition from customers. At the same time, silkworm seed products are highly sensitive to temperature and humidity; significant fluctuations can adversely impact hatch rates. To ensure precise control of these environmental parameters throughout the entire process, customs authorities have made concerted efforts to minimize the time required for clearance and transportation.
Li Xiaoliang, Chief of the Inspection Section of the Shouguang Office of Weifang Customs, stated that Weifang Customs has swiftly established a green channel for export enterprises, with a dedicated task force in charge, to streamline customs clearance procedures and complete them within two hours. This initiative has enabled 401,000 batches of silkworm eggs to be exported in the shortest possible time. In line with the “Smart Customs for a Strong Country” action plan, the customs authorities will steadily advance facilitation measures such as “advance declaration” and “appointment-based clearance,” while continuing to support local specialty industries and promote high-quality development of foreign trade.
