Delegation from the People’s Government of Hechi City Conducts Inspection and Research Visit to Guangtong Group
On April 9, 2025, a delegation of 13 leaders—including Mayor Wang Jun, Vice Mayors Chen Zhijie and Cao Chongjun, Secretary-General Lu Rong, District Chief Qi Xiao of Yizhou District in Hechi City, Director Qin Jiawang of the Hechi Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Deputy Director Wei Facao of the same bureau, as well as representatives from the Yizhou District Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Sericulture Station of the Hechi Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Guangxi Jialian Silk Co., Ltd., and the Sericulture Industry Development Center of Huanjiang Mao Nationality Autonomous County—visited Guangtong Group to conduct an inspection and research on the artificial-feed silkworm-rearing project. The delegation was joined by Lian Haigang, Fang Dewen, Xu Shanting, Chang Wenyong, Xu Fuwei, Li Zhihai, and Wang Longfei from the Group.
Mayor Wang and his delegation visited the Group’s headquarters production base, Guangtongbao Pharmaceutical Company, and the Group’s artificial-feed processing and silkworm-rearing workshops. They then convened a symposium in the Group’s second-floor conference room. During the meeting, Vice Mayor Cao of the Hechi Municipal People’s Government outlined the purpose of the visit and provided an overview of the current state of Hechi’s sericulture industry, as well as the challenges it faces in its development. Subsequently, Director Qin of the Hechi Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs discussed the strengths of Hechi’s sericulture sector in areas such as industrial clustering, research and development, promotion, distribution channels, and market regulation, along with the existing problems and the proposed next steps for building a RMB 100-billion silk industry cluster and establishing “China’s New Silk Capital.” Chairman Lian of the Group reported on the Group’s development, the current national situation regarding artificial-feed silkworm rearing, and progress in Guangtong’s breeding of artificial-feed silkworm varieties, formulation of feed recipes, and development of mechanized rearing systems. Vice Mayor Chen of the Hechi Municipal People’s Government, District Chief Qi of Yizhou District, and Deputy General Manager Wang Yong of Jialian Silk Co., Ltd. each shared their views on issues such as the cost of artificial-feed silkworm rearing, commercialization models, and potential cooperation arrangements. Finally, Mayor Wang Jun summarized the meeting and put forward the following requirements: Hechi should strive to build a RMB 100-billion industrial cluster for sericulture, cocoons, and silk—this represents both a significant challenge and a remarkable opportunity for the industry. The foundation for such development lies in superior varieties and advanced technologies; therefore, it is essential to select high-quality silkworm strains, enhance rearing techniques, and promote the transformation and upgrading of this traditional industry. To achieve these goals: first, Hechi and Guangtong shall jointly formulate a plan for artificial-feed silkworm rearing in Hechi, with implementation scheduled to begin in 2025, initially through pilot projects at the town and village levels, followed by a three-year rollout to achieve widespread adoption; second, Guangtong is encouraged to establish a specialized breeding company in Hechi dedicated to artificial-feed rearing; given that biological breeding is a key national priority, Guangtong should focus on selecting and propagating high-quality strains, integrating gene-editing technologies with traditional variety improvement to create a technology-driven seed enterprise of considerable influence; third, taking advantage of the launch of the nation’s 15th Five-Year Plan, Hechi should integrate science and technology, industry, and finance—leveraging technological innovation in breeding to enhance productivity and develop new drivers of growth—and collaborate with universities to establish key laboratories, with the aim of setting up a functional cocoon-and-silk center within five to ten years, thereby continuously accelerating the development of Hechi’s cocoon-and-silk industry and its broader socio-economic progress.
This visit by the inspection and research delegation from the Hechi Municipal People’s Government to Guangtong not only represents full recognition of Guangtong Group’s technological prowess in silkworm seed production, but also demonstrates the government’s concern for and support of Guangtong Group’s silkworm seed industry. Taking this opportunity presented by the Hechi Municipal People’s Government delegation’s inspection and research visit to Guangtong, Guangtong Group will, in accordance with the relevant directives put forward by Mayor Wang Jun,
The directive calls for full cooperation, joint consultation and co-construction, concerted efforts, and close collaboration to jointly promote the high-quality development of the sericulture industry in Hechi. (General Administration Department, April 10, 2025)
