The expert panel for the 2023 Cocoon and Silk Special Fund Project of the Ministry of Commerce visited Guangtong Group for a research visit.

According to the Notice on Strengthening the Management and Use of Special Funds for Cocoon Silk in 2023 and Promoting High Quality Development of the Industry issued by the National Cocoon Silk Office, commissioned by the National Cocoon Silk Coordination Office, on the afternoon of September 4th, a delegation of 9 people including Qian Youqing, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the China Silk Association, Yang Aiping, Deputy Secretary General of the China Silk Association, Gao Yajun, Special Invited Vice President of the Shandong Silk Association, Zhang Chaowu, Vice President of the Jiangsu Silk Association, Xu Jin, Secretary General of the Jiangsu Silk Association, Fan Tao, Chairman of the Anhui Silkworm Society, Zhang Ying, Executive Vice Chairman of the Anhui Silkworm Society, Wang Xiaoming, Financial Manager of Jiangsu Suhao International Group Co., Ltd., and Zhao Ying, Liaison Officer of the China Silk Association, accompanied by Jiang Hao, Deputy Director of the Shandong Provincial Department of Commerce, went to Guangzhou. Tong Group conducted a special research on the implementation of the Ministry of Commerce's 2023 cocoon silk special fund project, Group companies Fang Dewen, Chang Wenyong, Xu Shanting, Li Zhihai, and Li Haihui participated in the research activity.

Fang Dewen reports on the project situation.
First, the inspection team visited the Guangtong Artificial Feed Silkworm Breeding Workshop and inspected the on-site facilities for artificial-feed–based raw silkworm rearing, cocooning, and feed processing. Subsequently, the research team convened in the second-floor meeting room for discussion and exchange. Mr. Fang Dewen, representing the Group Company, delivered a special report on the 2023 Cocoon Silk Special Fund project of the Ministry of Commerce—Research and Application of Artificial Feed Raw Silkworm Breeding Technology—covering six key aspects: the background of project implementation, the status of project construction completion, the utilization of project funds, the economic benefits achieved through project implementation, the lessons learned and shortcomings identified during implementation, and post-construction plans. Following the report, the research team conducted an on-site review of the project’s financial documentation. After a comprehensive evaluation by the expert panel, the project received high praise, with consensus that: the implementation of the project has stabilized the feeding performance of artificial-feed–reared silkworm varieties, introduced disease-resistance genes into these varieties, and enhanced both their disease resistance and economic indicators; based on the adaptability of different varieties and life stages to artificial feed, the composition ratio of the feed has been optimized to develop formulations tailored to the full-age rearing of various raw silkworm varieties on artificial feed, thereby achieving the goal of fully age-rearing raw silkworms using artificial feed; the development and production of feeders, steaming machines, frame-washing and disinfection equipment, and other specialized machinery have resulted in labor and effort savings, simplified operation, and a higher level of mechanization in artificial-feed sericulture; furthermore, the “Technical Operating Procedures for Full-Age Artificial-Feed Rearing of Silkworms” have been formulated, establishing a replicable technical operating module. The project demonstrates significant social benefits and considerable potential for wider application and promotion. The 2023 cocoon silk development project of Shandong Guangtong Sericulture Co., Ltd. has been fully completed in accordance with the declared scope of work, with standardized accounting practices and complete, truthful, and accurate financial records, thus meeting all requirements of the project.

At the same time, the expert group recommends that the project implementation unit strengthen the research and development of labor-saving and automated equipment for artificial feed sericulture, continuously improve the artificial feeding technology system, further optimize and enhance the formula for raw silkworm feed, develop new quality productivity for artificial feed sericulture according to local conditions, and fully promote the transformation and upgrading of silkworm egg production, injecting new vitality and energy into the high-quality development of China's cocoon silk industry.

In his concluding remarks, Jiang Hao, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Commerce, emphasized that the current trends of population aging and environmental pollution are constraining the development of the traditional sericulture industry. He stated that the artificial-feed sericulture project is pivotal to the transformation and upgrading of the sericulture sector. It is imperative to prioritize the development of the seed industry, fully support Guangtong silkworm eggs in leveraging the new quality productivity brought about by artificial-feed sericulture, achieve a fundamental shift in production methods, and thereby promote the high-quality development of the sericulture industry. Qian Yongqing, Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of the China Silk Association, summarized that silkworm eggs are the very foundation of the silk industry’s development. He underscored the need to place great emphasis on the seed industry, harness modern technology to transform the traditional sericulture sector, capitalize on new quality productivity to stay abreast of emerging trends in transformation and development, drive the upgrading and expansion of the industrial chain, and continuously expand and strengthen the silk industry.
