Meeting venue

On the morning of October 25, in accordance with the agenda of the 2024 Provincial Sericulture Efficient Green Ecological Technology Training Course and Sericulture Industry High-Quality Development Seminar, more than 60 leaders, experts, and industry executives visited the production base of Guangtong Group and its artificial-feed sericulture workshop. The delegation toured facilities including the silkworm egg production and cocoon-cutting area, the automated silkworm pupa identification line, the full-age artificial-feed rearing workshop for raw silkworms, the artificial-feed maturation workshop, and other key sericulture sites.
On-site visit and exchange

Following the on-site visit, Guangtong Group invited more than ten experts from national and provincial sericulture industry technology systems to the second-floor conference room of the group company for a special seminar on the high-quality development of the sericulture industry and silkworm egg production. Lian Haigang, Fang Dewen, and Chang Wenyong from the group company attended the seminar. The session was chaired by Professor Zhang Shengxiang of Shandong Agricultural University. Researcher Fang Dewen of Guangtong Group focused on the key challenges hindering improvements in silkworm egg production capacity, including the mechanization of post-production processes, the prevention and control of micro-particle diseases, and the full-age rearing technology for silkworms fed artificial diets. He expressed the hope that the attending experts would engage in exchanges and discussions, deepen collaboration, and jointly undertake specialized research and development efforts, thereby making positive contributions to the upgrading of China’s silkworm egg industry. The experts engaged in lively exchanges and discussions on several critical bottlenecks in silkworm egg production, offering their views and recommendations based on their respective roles within the sericulture system. Zhao Ruixue, head of the Provincial Agricultural Technology Extension Center, summarized the presentations: Guangtong has undertaken extensive work in scientific and technological innovation, leading the advancement of the industry. The agricultural extension department should serve as a bridge between research institutions and enterprises, accelerating the translation and application of research findings; moreover, this type of thematic seminar is particularly effective in addressing the practical problems faced by enterprises. Researcher Guo Guang of the Sericulture Research Institute of the Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences put forward four recommendations: first, strengthen collaboration among promotion agencies, universities, research institutes, and enterprises to enhance scientific and technological R&D; second, promote seamless integration between the national and provincial sericulture systems; third, pursue cross-disciplinary integration and adopt a broader perspective beyond traditional sericulture to achieve well-rounded development; and fourth, integrate intelligent, digital, and mechanized R&D applications to further advance the high-quality development of the sericulture industry. Finally, Lian Haigang, Chairman of Guangtong Group, drawing on the salient challenges confronting the development of the sericulture industry, urged the experts to conduct research and innovation in areas such as industry standards, mechanical equipment development, mulberry leaf quality improvement, and optimization of artificial feed formulations. Guangtong stands in great need of expert opinions and suggestions. The company welcomes researchers and professors to bring their findings to Guangtong for trial implementation, and will do its utmost to expand and strengthen research outcomes. At the same time, Guangtong also hopes that experts and professors will provide greater attention and support in terms of sericulture industry development policies, increase funding for the sector, foster new sources of productivity, and work together to help Shandong’s sericulture industry achieve remarkable new successes.
